Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
2 Corinthians 7:1
Remember, purity is the fruit of a lifestyle of accountability. Lasting freedom from sexual sin is possible when you choose daily to Flee from Sin, Come to Christ, and Share with Others.
As a believer, the Holy Spirit enables you to desire a pure heart and gives you the grace to change, but you must do the work. Do not mock the grace provided by God through Christ Jesus. In humility and brokenness, draw near to Christ with a hatred for your sin. Recognize and thank Him for His forgiveness. With genuine repentance, pursue purity in Christian community to encourage, motivate, and hold you accountable.
If you have Christ, then you have what it takes to live in purity, free from lust, pornography, and immorality. Regardless of how deeply sexual sin is entrenched in your life, there is hope! The battle may be intense now, but victory is assured, because Jesus gave Himself to save His people from the power of sin:
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, who gave Himself for us to redeem us from every lawless deed, and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds. (Titus 2:11–14)
As we strive for purity, we must wrestle against the temptations of the world, the flesh, and the devil—but not without hope. One day, the fight against sin will be over, and with perfect purity we will delight in God’s presence forever. This is our blessed hope!
