The Power of Hope in Pursuit of Success

by Scot Chadwick

Would you say that you are a hopeful person? Do you hope for the best and trust that it will all work out somehow? The power of hope is life-changing, and we all can use more of it in our lives. But what is hope?

The Meaning of Hope

Hope is defined as a belief that things will get better, that good will come. Just being optimistic about your future is a good start, but hope also requires that you have a process to gain what you desire. Hope implies that you have some future good thing in mind, that you have a plan to make it happen, and that you intend to pursue it.

How Hope Helps You

Hope is a good thing! It benefits you in many ways:

  • Inspires you to set high-quality goals and fashion better action plans to accomplish those goals.
  • Gives you options to move forward from your present situation.
  • Helps you focus on your priorities.
  • Boosts your energy and performance.
  • Increases your confidence and courage to persevere even during adversity, giving you more peace and less anxiety and depression.
  • Helps you anticipate and recover from obstacles and setbacks.
  • Builds flexibility and creativity in solving problems by determining alternate paths to success.
  • Inspires you to press on to achieve your goal.
  • Enables you to handle disappointments with self-control and confidence.
  • Adds to your happiness while you fulfill the action plan and then accomplish the goal.
  • Reminds you to pursue excellence over perfection.
  • Helps you set a positive example for others to follow.
  • Shows that you can do more than you initially thought you could do.
  • Increases your happiness and leads to greater meaning in life.
  • Creates curiosity and excitement for future successes.

Take advantage of the many blessings hope can give you! But is it possible to experience more of the power of hope in your life? What could you do to become a more hopeful person?

How to Cultivate Hope

You can become a more hopeful person.

Your level of hope is influenced through how you deal with successes and failures in your life. Have you given up on setting goals since you never seem to win anyway? Do you find it difficult to come up with possible steps to attain a goal? Is it hard for you to think about how you could succeed in your goal?

Yes, you can become a more hopeful person. Now is the time to retrain yourself toward hope! Follow this process to cultivate a positive mindset and change your life for the better.

1. Set a Goal.

Achieving goals can build up your hope. A goal is a desired outcome—you want something, so you do certain things to get it. What is one thing that you could change about yourself in a short amount of time?

Start now by setting a practical goal that you know can improve your life. Your goal should be clear, consistent, compelling, and consequential. Describe what it is that you hope to gain by accomplishing this goal. Make sure that achieving the goal can give you the results you desire.

2. Plan Your Work.

Create an action plan by breaking your goal into several practical steps. Show how you expect to achieve what you want. Being clear about your process increases your confidence and hope that you will succeed.

Also, having alternate routes to accomplish your goal helps account for any challenges you encounter along the way and increases the likelihood of your success. Identify at least three possible ways for you to attain your desired outcome. Think outside the box and be willing to try new things. Evaluate the costs and benefits of various strategies and choose your preferred path.

3. Work Your Plan.

Your hope will grow as you continue down your path to victory.

Take action! The sooner you start, the sooner you can be finished. And, the more success you have, the more ways you discover to attain other successes. Your desire to achieve your goal can give you the energy you need to fulfill it. Devote enough time to act and be patient if you do not see immediate results. Your hope will grow as you continue down your path to victory.

Obstacles and challenges will come, so keep your alternate paths ready at hand in case of difficulty. If you want your goal, you will find a way to get it. But, if you find yourself unable to finish your goal, avoid giving up—instead, revise your goal to something more attainable at this stage of your life. Your sustained effort will help you move toward the change you desire.

Conclusion: The Power of Hope

Having hope shows that you earnestly expect that your good goal will be realized and have a plan to make it so. How could your life be better? What are you willing to do to make it better?

Once you have completed one goal, maintain your momentum for positive change. Set another practical goal, plan how to achieve it, and get to work. You will develop the power of hope in your life through the consistent pursuit of success.
